A
white big Teddy bear welcomes the guests in the lobby of Park hotel in Tokyo, in the center of Japanese capital. The lobby itself is on the 25th floor of Shiodome Media Tower and with its 10 floor to the roof forms the biggest atrium in the town. After a 15-hour flight from Sofia to Tokyo, with satellite transfer in Doha, Qatar, the bear somehow makes me feel relax and cozy.

The hotel just celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013 and for that period it became one of the major hotels in Tokyo top center. Our room is on 31st floor so called “the artist floor”, because of its seven (so far) artistic rooms designed by original Japanese artist masters. The room is big with French windows presenting a panorama view to Tokyo Tower and Shimbashi subway station. It is time for dinner so we move to the lobby floor and sit in the Japanese restaurant. Being for the first time in the country it is all new experience for me to try a 12-course traditional Kyoto style food, accomplished by local beer and sake (Japanese wine). The restaurant is also stylish, high class and with perfect serve. I am surprised by the variety of dishes and I might say all of them were delicious, tasty and very good looking. The vision of the food is a glimpse of the Japanese culture because the impression of the look is as important as the taste itself. It is a mutual connection like Ying-yang symbol.

The dinner ends with a visit to the whiskey bar The Society where all guests may enjoy number of cocktails and more than 200 The Society whiskey bottles specially mounted in the wall. We receive our attractively looking glasses with compliments from the bar manager Kouji-san. Both bar and restaurant cover 360є view to Ginza, Sky tree, Tokyo tower and city centre. Back to the room I sit on the sill of the window and just can’t stop watching the pulsations of the lights bellow.

On the next day we made a work-out in the gym of the hotel and took our chance to take a look at the rooms of the project Artist in Hotel. There are seven rooms designed and painted on the walls and roofs by famous Japanese artists. Each of the rooms is unique and present the traditional culture of its origin – Sumo, Zen, Washi, Dragon, Zodiac, Monster and One hundred poems. The hotel plans to add nine Artist Rooms per year over the next three years to create an entire Artist Floor, totaling 31 rooms.

In the project, participating artists turn their assigned rooms into art pieces based on the inspiration they gained while staying at the hotel and receiving services. Broadly themed on Japanese aesthetics, artists draw on the walls and decorate the rooms with their original paintings and art objects. A completed Artist Room is a pure art form encapsulating the creator"s passion and views. Let me give you a little bit deeper look at one of these rooms.

The room with the theme of "Dragon", was created when the artist Kiyoko Abe stayed in the hotel for 10 days from 11th January to 21st January. Looking out over Tokyo Tower from the huge window, the Dragon floats in. Taking the walls of the room as if they were a horizontal sheet of paper, she painted the story of the natural world. She says: "I want guests who stay in this room with its wonderful view, to view the panorama of modern Japan beneath their eyes, while at the same time realizing that people have lived, and are now living, in the raw world of Nature". The Dragon flying all over the room symbolizes the energy of Nature, and she hopes that this room (= space) will come alive with the Dragon"s energy.

The last Room was painted by Masako Inkyo (NY resident) just month ago. She completed the room during her stay at the hotel from April 16 to 22, 2014. The logo, which shows three flowers concept throughout the hotel"s interior, reflects a feeling of warmth and sophistication. Blue represents clean comfort, green is for nature, and red represents warmth and hospitality.

There are many luxury hotels in Tokyo, but only one where Art meets Business.
